ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Sri Sathya Sai Baba – Founder, Sathya Sai Schools

Sathya Sai Baba is an educator and spiritual leader (not affiliated to any particular religion), who lived in Puttaparthi, (1926-2011) nearby Bangalore, in South India. His mission was to help man recognize the divinity that is inherent in him. He has set up many schools, colleges, universities and hospitals to serve mankind. Sathya Sai Baba visited East African countries, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya in the year 1968. In the city of Nairobi in Kenya, He gave his first public discourse in Africa. He said,

“I have come to light the lamp of love in your hearts,
to see that it shines day by day with added luster.
I have come to tell you of this universal unitary faith,
this path of love, this duty of love, this obligation to love.

That is the message I wish you to take to heart”.

Baba addressed a multi-racial, multi-religious gathering at Kampala and said, “Just as the same bloodstream circulates in all the limbs of the one body, the one divine principle activates the entire universe”. Those were heartening messages, and were received with enthusiastic approval by people belonging to all walks of life.

Sai Baba established the first Sathya Sai School in India in 1968. By the early 1990s Sathya Sai Schools began to be established outside India, and Institutes of Sathya Sai Education (ISSE) were soon established to train teachers and assure quality. All Sathya Sai Schools are seats of excellence in spiritual, moral and academic education.

There are now 44 Sathya Sai Schools around the world, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Fiji, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and United Kingdom.  In Africa itself there are 12 Sathya Sai schools in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia and Mauritius all falling under zone 9A.
